At the end of each financial year (e.g. July 2024 – June 2025), the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) requires you to lodge a tax return. During this process, the ATO will compare the tax you have paid with the tax you should have paid, and will either issue a refund or a bill for any additional tax owed.
In Australia, employers contribute a percentage of employees' earnings (currently 11.5%, increasing to 12% from July 2025) to a retirement savings fund. This is referred to as Superannuation.
If you are an Australian resident for tax purposes, you are entitled to claim the tax free threshold.
All full-time and part-time employees are entitled to accrue up to 20 days of annual leave and 10 days of sick leave (on a pro-rata basis for part-time employees). Leave entitlements are accrued with each pay period.
